Local and family-owned by the Malcolm siblings, James and Laura, Foothills Honey is centered on culture, which is evident in their group of company stakeholders who range from family, neighbours, friends, staff and most of the local community of the Canterbury foothills.
They work with farmers across Te Waipounamu – some as far as the West Coast, some as close as next door. Placing their hives on their farms where the bees feed and in return, pollinate vegetables and clover- putting vital nitrogen back in the soil.
Quickly becoming a North Canterbury staple with its unique range of handcrafted, pure New Zealand honeys, Foothills is traceable from plant to plate.
Their range starts with the Mānuka 265+ honey, which is sharp in flavour and pure as the mountainscape from which it was harvested. There’s also the Mānuka and native botanicals honey which is described as the flavour of Aotearoa and packed with native botanicals (as the name suggests) from kānuka, tī kōuka, harakeke, black beech, whauwhaupaku and kōwhai to name a few. The team is serious about their roles as bee-guardians and all equipment used in the hives is sustainable and biodegradable.
