Bamboo Kitchen

Forty years ago, a takeaway dynasty was born in the Market Rd shops of Remuera. A lady immigrant from China, together with her family and business partner, devised a Kiwi take on some traditional Chinese dishes. This little place was called Diamond Takeaways and served the surrounding discerning community. That immigrant lady was my Mum. The business was such a great success it required the involvement of the entire family and soon outgrew the small premises and moved to its current location on the corner of Market and Great South Roads. When mum retired, I took over the whole business, together with her famous recipes of course! Along with the support of Marianne, my daughters and our staff, we created the institution it is today. Customers travel from near and far to get their regular fix of Diamond's freshly made food. With our daughters growing up in the business and some cooks having been there over 20 years, a certain familiarity has been bred. This has enabled our family to treat all of our customers as just one huge, expanded family. Now our family have turned their attention to a brand new space on Mt Eden Rd, Eden Terrace, where we are serving, along with our famous customer service, freshly crafted 'Kiwi Chinese Takeaways' under a new name - Bamboo Kitchen. We also serve fish, chips and burgers too. So to all customers, new or old, please come in and say hi to me and the Ah Nums and try some old-school delicious takeaways under a new name. See you soon.
