When times get tough as a food nation it can be hard to celebrate who we are or to understand the impact we’re having. That’s why we wanted to share this video, made by Otago Polytechnic’s Food Design students.

Taking the principles of Kai Hau Kai, our challenge for Feast Matariki this year, they show their profound understanding of the reciprocity of food and place.

In here is the essence of our food culture and who we are as food people I think.

Welly on a Plate starts today!

The beloved VISA Wellington on a Plate officially starts today in the capital, running through fro 1st - 31st August. If you're looking for some edible escapsim you can eat your way around the world through the exciting series of events, celebrating the theme.

If burgers are more your thing, Burger Wellington will kick off from 5th – 25th August. Check out some of the playful combinations and discover everything weird and wonderful that fits between two buns.

Eat NZ Kaitaki Max Gordy of Graze Wine Bar is collaborating with Canterbury based Kaitaki, Chef Olly Le Maitre of Black Estate (pictured below). Together they have crafted a seven-course feast using the many references to food in every Shakespeare play at their sold out event tonight - Food with your Play.

Wherever you are in Aotearoa this August, get out there and support your local hospitality heroes.

S.C.O.F.F coming this September

The South Canterbury Outstanding Food Festival (SCOFF) kicks off this next month, running from the 12th - 23rd September.

This multi-day festival, will be celebrating South Canterbury's outstanding food; the growers, producers and artisan creators, from the Pacific Ocean to Aoraki/Mount Cook.

As eaters, you can head to a participating eateries in Timaru, Waimate or Mackenzie district, order a SCOFF special and be in to win fantastic prizes! We look forward to seeing what the South Canterbury region tastes like!
