Government Support for Feast Matariki 2022

It’s with a great deal of excitement and much pride that we can now announce we’ve been successful securing some government funding (through the MBIE Creative and Cultural Incubator) for the future of Feast Matariki. By partnering with one of Aotearoa’s largest iwi, Ngāi Tahu, we’ll be ensuring that our original food stories are given even more space to become part of our future.

It’s been a difficult couple of years, but we think we deserve to have a national food celebration that reflects our values and what truly makes us unique on the world’s stage. We are hopeful we can grow this into something everyone sees themselves reflected in, and pulls us all around the same tables, whatever our backgrounds.

We’re going to start with a number of maraes in Te Waipounamu / South Island and expand the wānanga or knowledge into our communities where we can all access increased understanding of our food, people and practices at this very special time of year.

This is just the beginning, and we’ll need more help to realise the vision. If your organisation would like to be part of this kaupapa please reach out to us now.

In the meantime, mark Monday 13th to Sunday 26th June in your diaries and calendars. It’s time to reflect, to give thanks, to learn, and it’s time to Feast.

National Farmers Market Week

From Saturday 12th March - Sunday 20th March, we are celebrating National Farmers Market Week in Aotearoa. It's an initiative supported by Farmers Market New Zealand and this year the focus is around celebrating fresh, seasonal, local food in our communities.

This annual celebration highlights the vital role Farmers Markets play in our nation’s food system, and amidst a global pandemic it's more important than ever that these markets are treasured as hubs for connection and their ability to bring people together!

Make it your mission this week to buy one thing from your local Farmers Market, bonus points if you start a conversation with your farmer. #KnowYourFarmer

We'd like to acknowledge the generous and ongoing support of our sponsors and partners including the Ministry for Primary Industries, ANZ, Our Land and Water, AgResearch & Anchor Food Professionals.
