Ake Ake Ake - Te Wiki o te reo Māori

'Ake ake ake - A Forever Language.’ In honour of Te Wiki o te reo Māori (Māori Language Week), this year we wanted to share three Food Growing Whakataukī in the hope they may inspire you on your own kai and te reo journey.

1. Kohikohi ngā kākano, whakaritea te pārekereke, kia puāwai ngā hua

Gather the seeds, prepare the seed bed and you will be gifted with the abundance of food.

- We see this as a reflection of our Eat NZ Kaitaki Collective

2. iti noa, he pito mata

from small things, many can be fed.

- Our version of #LotsOfLittle

3. I hea koe I te ao o te kōwhai?

Where were you at the time of the kōwhai flowering?

- The ‘Little Red Hen’ or ‘Do the mahi, get the treats’ call

To us, these whakataukī represent truisms connected back to our natural world. Astute reflections born out of keen and experienced observation.
