Eat NZ Grains

Eat NZ Grains

Did you know NZ farmers produce some of the highest quality grains in the world? Despite this, at least three-quarters of the bread sold in New Zealand is made from imported grain, primarily from Australia.

In October last year we launched an entirely new provenance brand for Aotearoa ~ The NZ Grown Grains Mark, at the Eat NZ Hui in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. This was a huge moment for the arable industry, after five years of working alongside The Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) to grow our local grain economy.

The NZ Grown Grains Mark is a nationally recognised symbol that identifies products made with New Zealand-grown grains, seeds and pulses.

This Official Certification Trademark is more than just a label - it’s a promise. A promise from our growers, farmers, millers, bakers and more, that the grain in your hands has been grown here, by our people, on New Zealand farms. It’s a mark that celebrates provenance, pride, and the growers who have cared for these crops from seed to harvest.

By choosing kai (food) that carries this NZ Grain mark you’re helping support a more resilient, delicious, and distinctly New Zealand food future.

How do I sign up?
Businesses interested in using the NZ Grown Grains Mark must apply for approval. Please email details of your company and product to: nzgrowngrains@far.org.nz

What does it cost?
The NZ Grown Grain Certification Trademark is FREE to use, as long as businesses comply with the license requirements - including record keeping that proves provenance.
